The Positive Impact of Energy Savings

If you are searching for energy saving ways to help the environment, then you are certainly not alone. In recent years, we have been hearing more and more about the green movement, and this has allowed us to look deeply into our impact on the earth. As a result, millions of people are searching for energy saving ways to help keep our earth clean and healthy, as well as to begin helping it replenish its natural resources. Unfortunately, many people find themselves at a loss on where to start. Listed below are many energy saving tips that you can begin using immediately.

  • Wash your windows frequently and thoroughly to take the best advantage of daylight as possible instead of electrical lighting.
  • In the summertime, clean out any bird or rodent nests from attic openings so that air can flow easily through your attic space, this will reduce cooling costs.
  • Organize a recycling program at your school or office, and get everyone involved by showing them the benefits.
  • Walk to work or ride a bicycle when the weather permits.
  • Turn your water heater setting down a couple degrees. Typical homes use over 30% of its electric budget on hot water.
  • Wash clothes in cold water, and dry them on a line instead of using an electric or gas operated dryer. Line drying is not only good for energy savings, but it’s also easier on the fabric.
  • Keep the coils at the back of your refrigerator clean and free from debris to minimize heat exchange and keep your fridge running at optimal efficiency.
  • Keep the time you have your refrigerator door open to a minimum. You want to keep as much cool air in as possible, in order to keep the fridge from kicking back on to produce more cool air to circulate around your food.
  • Plant trees and shrubs around your air conditioning condenser. The shade from the shrubs enables the air conditioner to work less to cool itself.
  • Turn off radios, lights and televisions when they are not being used.
  • Drive only the speed limit to conserve fuel.
  • Purchase storm windows or double pane windows to keep cool air in during the summer, and warm air in during the winter.
  • Use the lowest octane grade of gas that your car can use without causing it to knock.
  • Clean out any unnecessary items from your car and trunk. Any extra weight could translate into more fuel being used.
  • Run your dishwasher at night and leave the door open so the dishes can drip dry overnight.

All of these tips require very little effort on your part, and can add up to energy savings that you never could have imagined. It’s clear to see that if you have a little time and the effort to practice energy saving methods, that you will soon be saving more than just energy; you will be saving time, money, and the environment.
